Moaning Cavern Adventure Park: Rappel 165 Feet Into the Cave’s Depths
March 1, 2016 | western
If you've ever wondered just how big the Statue of Liberty is, Moaning Cavern can give you a good idea, even if you've never been to New York. Its massive vertical chamber is big enough to contain the Statue of Liberty, making it the largest public cavern of its kind anywhere in the state. And you have a few different options for exploring it.
Most adventurers opt to discover the cavern from above via zip line. The twin zip lines zoom over treetops, allowing pairs of thrillseekers to race each other to the end of the line. But if you want to really get up close and personal with the cave's nooks and crannies, you should rappel down into its depths. You'll travel all the way to the bottom of the vertical chamber, a whopping 165 feet, strapped safely in a harness. After rappelling, you have the option of delving deeper into the cave for two hours. Guests can also go for a slower-paced walking tour if they're not interested in the adrenaline aspect of the trip.
